INTERN – ADMINISTRATION [Temporary] Org. Setting and Reporting

These internships are located in the Division for Management (DM), Human Resources Management Services (HRMS), Staff Development Unit (SDU), United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will be under the supervision of the Chief, Staff Development Unit.The Staff Development Unit is responsible for implementing the Organization’s learning and development policy at Headquarters and UNODC field offices, which emphasises that staff development is an on-going process and a necessary investment for UNOV/UNODC to successfully achieve the mandates now and in the future. We administer a language learning programme and a varied selection of workshops and learning programmes both in classroom and through online and mobile training media. Additionally, the unit monitors compliance with mandatory training and performance management system within UNOV/UNODC.

The internships are for a duration of 6 months. There are several openings available, with various starting times throughout 2019 and 2020, the first opening to be filled in mid-November 2019.

The internships are UNPAID and full-time; interns work five days per week (40 hours).

The intern shall deliver a wide range of administrative and office support functions for a which may include, but are not limited to the following:

•Undertakes independent projects to include research, drafting training proposals, presentations on various training and development–related topics;
•Prepares training-related statistics and gathering other data from existing databases, as required;
•Provides support in preparation of training workshops and meetings, to include scheduling, review and preparation of materials, registrations, etc.;
•Contributes to Unit’s outreach activities which many include training needs analysis, client satisfaction surveys and course evaluations, as well as regularly reviewing and updating content on Intranet, and marketing and promotion of various training programmes;
•Participates in team meetings, prepares minutes and helps to coordinate follow-up activities;
•Assists with the administration of UNOV/UNODC’s language, internship, field office training and other programmes, as needed;
•Conducts search for various training materials on the internet, compiles material for use in various training materials
•Assists with marketing campaigns and design of various marketing and training materials and manuals
•Helps other team members in peak times with the coordination of various learning and development activities;
•Graphic design, desktop publishing and webdesign skills are highly desirable for at least one of the available internship openings
•Performs other duties to support the small team, as needed.Competencies

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)

•Be computer literate in standard software applications

•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Work ExperienceLanguages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.Assessment
