DHAKA, June 28, 2020:  U.S Embassy Dhaka is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program for the 2021-2022 academic year.  This unique, one-year program is open to professional candidates in the public and private sectors, including from non-governmental organizations.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is one of the U.S. government’s prestigious Fulbright program offerings that brings accomplished mid-career professionals to the United States for a year of non-degree, graduate-level study, leadership development, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts.  By providing future leaders and policy makers with exposure to U.S. society, culture, and professional fields, the program seeks to develop lasting, productive ties between program participants and their Americans counterparts.

Fellowships are being offered in the areas such as, Sustainable Development, Democratic Institution Building, Education, and Public Health.  More information regarding the fields of study and the eligibility criteria is available in our website.

The Humphrey Fellowship covers tuition and fees for the fellow’s English academic programs, a monthly maintenance stipend, insurance coverage, an allowance for books and supplies, round-trip international airfare, supplementary funds for professional activities such as field trips and conferences, and expenses in connection with internships.  For more information visit the full program announcement:  https://bd.usembassy.gov/2021-2022-hubert-h-humphrey-fellowship-announcement/

The Public Affairs Section of the U. S. Embassy, Dhaka is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for the 2021-2022 academic year.  This unique, one-year program is open to professional candidates in the public and private sectors, including from non-governmental organizations.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is one of the U.S. government’s prestigious Fulbright program offerings that brings accomplished young and mid-career professionals to the United States for a year of non-degree graduate-level study, leadership development, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts.  By providing future leaders and policy makers with exposure to U.S. society, culture, and professional fields, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas.  The Humphrey Program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey.

Fellowships are granted competitively to professional candidates in either the public or private sector with a commitment to public service.

  1. Contagious and Infectious Disease

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the program:

1.Be a Bangladeshi citizen and in Bangladesh at the time of the application and the selection process.

  1. Not be dual (Bangladesh & U.S.) citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
  2. Be a young, mid-career professional in leadership positions who has demonstrated a   commitment to public service and the potential for professional advancement.
  3. Cannot be a recent university graduate.
  4. Have completed a university degree program requiring at least four years of full-time study.
  5. Should have a minimum of five years full-time professional experience (prior to August 2021) in the relevant field, after completing a university degree, and should be interested in the policy aspects of their field of specialization
  6. Cannot be university teachers or academic researchers with no management responsibilities (except in the fields of Substance Abuse Education, Prevention, and Treatment and Teaching of English as a Foreign Language);
  7. Cannot have attended a graduate school in the United States for one academic year or more seven years prior to August 2021.
  8. Cannot have U.S. experience of any kind lasting more than six months during the five years prior to August 2021.
  9. Be proficient in both written and spoken English and should normally have a minimum TOEFL score of 525 (paper based) or 71 (internet-based).  Candidates who do not have a valid TOEFL score must sit for the TOEFL exam after the selection process. The American Center will arrange TOEFL exam for selected candidates only. Exceptionally promising candidates with lower scores may be nominated for the Long-Term English (LTE) training.
  10. Should demonstrate the required experience, skills, and commitment while also indicating how they can benefit from this program in ways that they have not experienced previously and are not likely to experience without the Humphrey Program.
  11. Be in good health; successful candidates will be requested to complete a medical examination.
  12. Return to Bangladesh on completion of the program.

An applicant must first create an IIE account before s/he can access the HHH Fellowship Program application.  Applicants can use this account to log into the system throughout the application process.  Applicants can save the application and return to it before submitting it.  An applicant must read all instructions carefully.  Keeping in mind the word limits, candidates should try to answer each essay question as fully as possible.

When applicants finish their applications, they should review the application to ensure they have completed all the required questions and attached all requested documents before they submit their applications.  After submitting the application, applicants can view the document, but will not be able to make edits.

The deadline for submission of completed applications is July 18, 2020.
